I wrote each letter on the board with an individual eye-catching font: Big O, elegant X, slim Y...ask my students.
Oxymoron is a rhetorical figure of speech in which contradictory terms are paired. Just imagine, you are in the kitchen, and clumsily mixing olive oil to tap water! Or, you yourself are inside the same kitchen and you are taking a bath right there, instead THERE (!) at the perfumed bathroom! It is like a girl named Apple but, by golly wow, she wolfs down 400 kilos of grapes in one hour! Well, that is life and enough of those awed reactions because that is the key character here on earth--conflicting pairs!
Examples
"dry lake" -- How can it be dry when it is a LAKE?
"alone in the crowd" --crowd, many people, right? But it seems, one loves solitude!
"jumbo shrimp"
The examples above are "awful good" (ooops, an oxymoron there!). And if you have already interested to anything oxy and anything moronic, check oxymoronlist.com and let the contradiction of ideas paired and teamed whet your appetite!
Clean the board and pick up pieces of paper. Ciao!
